    Instructions On How To Display Collision Diagrams And Crash Locations:
  1. You should have installed Google Earth® in your computer, and have connected to the internet. (For installation, go to  http://earth.google.com/intl/en/)
  2. (Optional) Set Google Earth® in "DirectX" mode (this mode displays collision diagram better), as follows:
    1. Double click the Google Earth® icon to run it.
    2. In Google Earth®, click Tools and then click Options.... When Google Earth® Options dialog appears, in 3DView tab, set Graphic Mode to DirectX.
    3. Exit Google Earth®.
  3. Open the KMZ file for collision diagrams, as follows:
    1. Double click the KMZ file for collision diagrams that you have received or downloaded. 
    2. Or, go to the web page and double click the link for collision diagrams, such as such as the link below:      http://www.jmwengineering.com/Crash/DCTop10CollisionDiagrams.kmz
    3. Or, run web browser, then type or paste the link below and then click Go:
           http://www.jmwengineering.com/Crash/DCTop10CollisionDiagrams.kmz
  4. Display collision diagrams as follows:
    1. If Google Earth® occupies full screen, click View and then click Full Screen or  Sidebar. This will open a side bar at the left hand side.
    2. Inside this side bar, under Places, look for Collision Diagram. Under Collision Diagram, double a location, such as Location 1 or 1 - ..... It will fly to Location 1 and then display the collision diagram. (See also step f below.)
    3. Click a plotted arrow head (or a pin), it will display the fields and field contents of a record.
    4. Click a plotted arrow head (or a pin), it will display a hyperlink called Report Image .... When you click this hyperlink, it will display the crash report image.
    5. To go to another location, repeat step 4.b, or follow step f below.
    6. - Click Search in the left sidebar, then click Fly To tab.
      - In the box under Fly To, type a location, then click the Begin search button (the button with a magnifier):
      - Note: when typing a location, you should include address or street names, plus city and state. For example:
           North Capital St and H St Washington DC
           Fannin St and Webster St Houston TX
           Route 50 and Route 551 Orlando FL
           Bowery St and Canal St New York NY
  5. Open the KMZ file for crash locations, as follows: (This is to display crash locations and collision diagrams together.)
        Simply double click the KMZ file for crash locations, then click Open. If this does not work, do the following:
    1. Within Google Earth®, click File and then click Open.
    2. When Open dialog appears,
      - Click the box next to look in, then navigate to the folder containing the KMZ file for crash locations (such as DCTop10CrashLocations.kmz), then double click the KMZ file.
      - Or, place or type the link for crash locations (such as http://www.jmwengineering.com/Crash/DCTop10CrashLocations.kmz) in the box next to File name, then click Open
    3. This will open the KMZ file for crash locations on the same Google Earth®.
  6. Display crash locations and/or collision diagrams together, as follows:
    1. Go to the side bar at the left side, under Places, look for Stacked Symbol Plot. Click the title link below Stacked Symbol Plot and above Legend, it will display a description about the plot.
    2. Go to the side bar, under Places, look for Legend. This is the legend for the symbols within a stack.
    3. Zoom-in one of the stack of symbols. When zooming-in, the symbols within a stack become farther apart. In some outputs, If you keep zooming-in, it will be replaced by another stack and the symbols within the new stack will be closer together.
    4. Click a plotted symbol, it will display the fields and field contents of a record. In some outputs, it will also display hyperlinks such as Report Image, Memo File or Image File. When you click this hyperlink, it will display the crash report image, a memo or an image.
    5. Go to the side bar, under Places, look for Collision Diagram. Double click a location, such as Location 1 or 1 - ..., it will fly to that location, and it will display the collision diagram and the stacked symbols at that location. 
  7. How to turn collision diagrams and crash locations on or off:
    1. To turn crash locations on/off: go to the side bar, under Places, look for Stacked Symbol Plot, then check/uncheck the box next to Stacked Symbol Plot.
    2. To turn collision diagrams on/off: go to the side bar, under Places, look for Collision Diagram, then check/uncheck the box next to Collision Diagram
  8. The KMZ files that you have opened in step 3 and step 5 are inside Google Earth. They are now part of Google Earth®. You can use all the functions of Google Earth® to manipulate them, including navigating, editing, printing, emailing, etc. For more information, go to http://earth.google.com/intl/en/userguide/v4/#navigating
