Built-In Memo When you click a plotted symbol, it displays a link called "Memo File
(Doc)". This link is for adding a memo that is associated with a crash record.
You can add a memo to any crash record at any time, in
Microsoft Word "doc" file format. When
you click the "Memo File ..." link, If you have added a
"doc" file for that crash record, it will display the "doc"
file on the
screen. If you have not added a memo for that crash record, it will
simply indicate it cannot display it and you can add it any other time.
If the crash is part of
an on-going investigation, one can keep adding comments and notes to the same
file, then re-save it. When you click the plotted symbol and then the "Memo
File ..." link, all the additional comments and notes will also be
displayed.
The way it works is as
follows: Each plotted symbol is associated with a crash record. Each crash
record has a unique ID, such as report number. If you save the "doc"
file with a file name equal to the unique ID, when you click a plotted symbol,
it will associate with a crash record, and it will associate with the
"doc" file.
The following steps
shows how to make use of the built-in feature to add a memo:
Create a subfolder called "Memos" under the folder where the KMZ
file (the file for displaying collision diagrams or crash locations in Google Earth) is located.
For example, if CCC is the folder where the KMZ file is located. Create a
subfolder called "CCC\Memos".
Use Microsoft Word® to write a memo.
Save the memo in "doc" file format. Use the report ID as the
file name. For example, if the crash record has a report ID of XXX, then
save the file as XXX.doc.
Put the file in "CCC\Memos\XXX.doc".
When you click a plotted symbol, and when you click the link "Memo File ...", it will display the
memo that you have saved in step
3.
